Jikjisa's History:
Jikjisa Temple was founded by Venerable Ado in 418 ACE. Given the 1700-year history of Korean Buddhism, this temple is one of the oldest temples established in the Korean peninsula. The name of the temple, ‘Jikji’ which refers to ‘pointing directly’ to the Original Mind (or so called Buddha Nature), is derived from the teaching of Seon (Zen) Buddhism. The Original Mind is a fundamental mind of all living beings, which is free from negative thoughts and defilements. Buddha says we will become enlightened by directly seeing the Original Mind without depending on words and letters. Upon the entrance, you will walk on a footpath surrounded by a luxuriant forest with various plant and trees. Especially old pine trees on the temple compound make the temple quaint and graceful. You can also see many different kinds of flowers bloom as season changes. There are many cultural assets hear in Jikjisa, including the Main Buddha Hall and the three-story stone stupas (pagodas). The most special point about staying in Jikjisa Temple is you can experience the old way of living with Buddhist monastics in such a historic place.

About the Templestay Programs:
There are three different types of Templestay programs offered by Jikjisa. One is ‘Looking directly into your mind’, which is an experiential program containing a variety of cultural activities of Korean Buddhism in a millennial temple, including the Buddhist chanting ceremony, teatime with a Buddhist monk, 108 prostrations, walking meditation and making 108 prayer beads etc. The schedule and activities are changeable depending on the circumstances. Another program is ‘A little comma in your mind’, which is for those who want to have a good rest in a tranquil environment. This program has no fixed schedule, but participants are required to take part in Buddhist chanting ceremonies, and be on time for meals. Staying in Jikjisa Temple surrounded by beautiful nature may give you a chance to find inner peace and harmony with others. The other program is 'Why don't you stay a little longer?'. This is a 2-night 3-day program that is a combination of the existing two programs; the regular type and relaxing type of templestay. It is definitely a unique experience to have a gataway in a millennial Korean Buddhist Temple. So we recommend you to stay one more day and make good memories in this special place. We also offer Templestay programs for groups from organizations, travel agencies and institutions. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have queries about this matter during business hours from 9 am to 5 pm (GMT +9). The details of Templestay programs are displayed below:
