Templestay is a unique cultural program that began in Korea in 2002, allowing participants to stay at Buddhist temples and experience monastic life firsthand.

Rooted in more than 1,700 years of Korean Buddhist tradition, it was first launched during the 2002 FIFA World Cup to introduce Korea’s temple culture to international visitors.

Today, Templestay welcomes people from all walks of life who are seeking rest, reflection, and inner peace. Through activities such as Meditation, Tea ceremonies, Yebul(buddhist ceremony), Monastic meals, many participants find relief from stress, greater emotional clarity, and a deeper connection to themselves.

It’s more than just a retreat—it’s a meaningful journey into simplicity, silence, and Korean heritage.

Bongeunsa Temple, with over 1,200 years of history, is one of the most iconic and active temples in Seoul. It welcomes more than 250,000 Buddhist followers and over 15,000 visitors each day.

For travelers interested in Korean traditional and Buddhist culture, Bongeunsa offers a wide range of Templestay programs. We hope that even just one of these experiences will become a memorable and peaceful part of your journey in Korea.
